Life is like an MMO, and authorpreneurs are the DPS
Online games are a collaborative effort that can be described, as laid out in this podcast, as a model for effectiveness in the realm of authorpreneurship. Authorpreneurship as DPS, in ten steps.
In this Podcast:
Big goals are boss fights. Can be chipped a little at a time.
1 Gearing up for the raids
- Everything must be done as optimally as you can with your available resources;
- Always be creating (podcast episode nr 1);
- Gems and enchants (resources);
- Learning the mechanics;
- Building your tribe; and
- Getting purples (previous experience, keeping notes of previous times).
2 buffs and stuff
- Get the right support, doing it alone sucks;
- Friends and family;
- Online and real-world communities and mentors; and
- Outsourcing tasks, tax and such.
3 Pre potting
- Doing things before the goal to give you more traction;
- Such as pre-launch on Amazon;
- Writing mailing list e-mails before hand; and
- Writing and scheduling social media posts.
4 The pull
- Free promotions, launch day stuff; and
- Communicating well with your tribe.
5 Pop long cooldowns first (and again once they come off cooldown)
- Things that only need to be done once which effects will last a while;
- Gym;
- Sending a book off to the editors;
- Creation of leverageable web content, such as podcasts and articles; and
- Maximal uptime is the key.
6 Pop instant casts
- Things that take less than 2 minutes should be done immediately;
- Feeding the cat counts; and
- Reading e-mails, social media doesn’t (because it always takes more than 2 min).
7 Keep the dots rolling
- Make sure your engagement with your tribe is ongoing, not sporadic; and
- Spread out activities, such as article publications and Podcasts appearances.
8 Use fillers in all open spaces, never stop DPS!
- Make sure you have the tools available to always be able to work on your business;
- Kindle with audiobooks and such;
- Social media; and
- E-mails.
9 Top DPS priority
All things are important, but some are more important than others, follow the priority
10 Don’t stand in the fire
If there are things you know are bad for your DPS, try not to do them.
